CDC dental practices offer patients dental veneers
At our dental practices across South East Queensland and Northern NSW we offer a range of cosmetic dentistry treatments to help improve the appearance of our patients’ smiles. One of the cosmetic treatments we offer is dental veneers. There are two options for veneers: porcelain and composite veneers. Composite veneers are a same-day treatment that involves composite resin material being shaped around the tooth to produce the desired effect.
Unlike porcelain veneers, composite veneers do not last as long, are more prone to chipping and may not look as natural. The advantages of composite resin veneers over porcelain veneers are they are cheaper and only take one appointment.
Porcelain veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are attached to the front of your teeth in the smile zone. The smile zone is the six teeth in your upper and lower jaw that are visible when you smile. It is recommended that prior to getting any porcelain restorations that you consider teeth whitening treatment. The reason being that porcelain restorations cannot be bleached with teeth whitening treatments. When porcelain restorations are placed they are matched to the colour and shade of your natural teeth.
The porcelain veneer process
This treatment takes two appointments spread over a week or two. The first appointment is when the impressions of your teeth are taken. Then a small amount of enamel is taken off and a temporary is placed. The impressions are then sent to our dental laboratory when your more permanent restorations are made.
Your second visit is when the temporary veneers are removed and the more permanent veneers are bonded into place. Porcelain veneers can last up to 10 years if looked after properly: are stain resistant—not stain proof—and are an effective way to conceal cosmetic chips and cracks.

It is important after any cosmetic dentistry treatment that you visit your dentist regularly. You should be doing this anyway, but when you get cosmetic dentistry it is important to ensure that the restorations are also well looked after.
Veneers are bonded to the front of your teeth and are a purely cosmetic treatment. For severe chipped or cracked teeth you may require a dental crown. For overly gappy teeth orthodontics may be a more practical solution.
