Crowns and Bridges

crowns and bridges gold coast

Being one of the world’s most common dental restorations, Coastal Dental Care are experienced in crowns and bridges. An effective measure; used not only to improve your smile but to also help to repair or replace teeth.

Crowns:

Crowns, or caps, act like a tooth-colored porcelain helmet for your teeth. They work to protect the weakened tooth underneath that is chipped, cracked or even discolored. They are cemented into place on the tooth all the way down the gum line.

Not all of the dental crowns are made of porcelain. And it usually depends on where you require your crown. For example, if one of your back teeth requires a crown, you will require a substance stronger than porcelain, such as metal or gold as it will withstand pressures when biting.

Crowns can be useful for severely worn teeth due to bruxism and can last a lifetime if maintained properly. At least two appointments will be required to help ensure that the procedure is measured out appropriately to suit your face and tooth structure. An impression of your teeth will be taken on your first appointment, which will be sent to a laboratory where your crown will be fabricated.

Your prepared tooth will be covered with a temporary crown and will be removed at your second appointment for application of your permanent crown.

Bridges:

For individuals who want a couple of their teeth replaced, a dental bridge is designed to actually bridge the gap between missing teeth. Each end of the bridges created will anchor the dental bridge to your existing teeth with abutments. These hold the bridges in place, and in between these abutments, the artificial teeth will be placed.

Dental bridges, when done correctly look natural and unnoticeable; they are convenient and can be a comfortable alternative to other dental procedures.

Some people prefer a more permanent solution to their missing teeth, which would mean installing dental implants into the gums. This can be used as another method to anchor the dental bridges and will make them fixed; this can sometimes be more convenient for patients.

Porcelain restorations, like your normal teeth, are not stain-resistant and need proper care to keep in pristine condition. This includes attending your usual 6 monthly dental check-ups and sticking to your daily oral hygiene schedule.
