All our dental practices offer the CDBS
From January 2024, the Medicare Teen Dental Plan was replaced by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). The CDBS is a dental benefits program for eligible children between the ages of 0 and 17 which provides $1,095 in benefits for basic dental services over a two year period.
The two year period starts at the beginning of the calendar year and there is no rollover. That is, if there is any of the $1,095 left at the end of the two years it cannot be used in the next two year period.
Coastal Dental Care participates in the CDBS
When you are making an appointment at our one of Coastal Dental Care practices please let us know you are seeking treatment under this scheme. This will allow our front desk team to prepare the paperwork necessary for you to claim the CDBS. This will as insure you won’t reach your limit and there will be no out of pocket expenses.
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule covers basic dental services such as:
- Check-up
- X-rays
- Cleaning
- Fissure sealing
- Fillings
- Root canal therapy
- Extractions
What can’t the Child Dental Benefits Schedule be used for?
The CDBS can’t be used for cosmetic treatments (porcelain veneers and teeth whitening), orthodontics (braces and Invisalign) and any services provided in a hospital. If you are unsure whether or not the treatment you’re seeking is covered, feel free to contact one of our dental practices.
Also the CDBS cannot be used in conjunction with private health insurance claim: it is one or the other.
Who can claim the CDBS?
To claim the CDBS your child needs to be between 0 to 17, and must receive the relevant Australian Government payment – such as Family Tax Benefit Part A—at any point in the calendar. You’ll receive a letter or email from the Department of Human Services if your child is eligible for the funding. For the most children this notice will sent at the beginning of the year.
